The uploading continues apace. I am almost ready to stop for the evening and maybe try to write. Or something. I miss writing. It's been days since I did any. Sigh.

I was uploading a lot of the codas I wrote in season 2, when I was still in the first flush of fandom love, and wow, season 2 was good for codas. I think I wrote at least one (sometimes more than one) for almost every episode. I miss that, too.

*

Tonight for dinner I made a roast loin of pork. It was very tasty. I combined garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and basil in about a tablespoon of olive oil (for easy spreading), along with a couple of teaspoons of brown sugar and a large splash of vanilla (for years, I wouldn't tell my mother about the brown sugar and vanilla, and she couldn't replicate the taste. Heh.). Rub that on, top with a few pats of butter, and then cook until the internal temperature is 160°F. It was very tasty and juicy and good.

  1. RL/thesis-wise, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. As long as nobody rushes out in front of me and adds another X-million kilometres of tunnel, I should be emerging into the light around mid-February/early March. WOO HOO. And then there will be porn, oh yes.

  2. I've seen those fannish wishlists being posted about the place. I am too addled to come up with one of my own, so for the moment, here's a Saiyuki-flavoured wish fullfilment for [info]samsarapine who wanted haiku --  Hakkai/Gojyo, and the shortest fic PWP I've ever written:

    Up again so soon
Gojyo wants to sleep but can't
    'Hakkai' means 'eight times'

  3. Aaaaaaaaaaaaages ago, I'd said there was a fic written for this year's [info]7thnight_smut that I wanted to rec once it was public. It now is -- YAYs! It's "The Morrow's Island Horrors", a Gaiden-themed, Steampunk (STEAMPUNK! EEEE!) AU by [info]whymzycal, which contains 10K (the public version contains even more Tenpou/Kenren) and it's delicious and everybody should read it. *pokes*

  4. The Archive of Our Own is kind of awesome and fun. I've created an account for me over here, and am a little bit in love with how fabulously RED the site is, as well as the retentive geekery that's gone into the way you can search for fic, and break the search down by pairing (as an aside: I'm the first to upload Sirius/Crowley, and Sirius/Remus/Crowley -- go me!). This is a massive improvement on ff.net, aff.net, Skyehawke, and similar sites, in that I can actually find things on this one. My only 'criticism' at this point is that it's very fic-oriented. It would be fabulous if it eventually allows for meta/essays/manifestos/etc. But it's early days yet, so I'm happy to kick back and see what happens, while enjoying the red in the meantime :D

  5. Did JKR release Book 8, and nobody told me? Failing that, has someone been poking the HP-wankers with a stick? Because something has got the Snape-fen and the Harmonians all riled up, to the point where there are three posts in one day across [i]fandom_wank and [i]the_hms_stfu. I was reading along for the lulz, but after getting to how Lily should have forgiven Snape for calling her a Mudblood while she was trying to keep MWPP from tormenting him, or how Remus has dangerous 'special needs' and shouldn't have been educated alongside decent folk (like Snape, no doubt) and should have been sent to a separate school for furries his kind, it just... We lost the funny :( {That said, this summary of the batshit!Snapefan's argument [and if you're not a batshit!Snapefan, then I'm not talking about you!] did make me LOL: SNAPE WAS A CUDDLY, CUDDLY, MAN AND EVERYONE EVER WAS MEAN TO HIM.

  6. THANK YOU to everybody who responded to my 'hey, so tell me things about Hetalia and Weiss Kreuz' -- I am going to investigate both :D I should clarify that these aren't the only fandoms I plan to gorge myself on once the #@$%ing thesis is done -- just the ones where I wasn't sure what the source was, or where to find it. Other fandoms on my list include Loveless, Bleach (I had already tried it, and didn't find it particularly inspiring, but someone assured me it gets better after a certain arc, so I'll give it another go and stick with it until at least then), Full Metal Alchemist, Junjou Romantica, Antique Bakery, and Code Geass. This is not a complete list, but should be more than enough to keep me out of mischief for a while :D (Spoiler-free thoughts on yaoi all of the above are required welcome in the comments)

  7. This was not on anybody's wishlist, but this seems a good a place as any to re-post it: a Saiyuki/WK "crossover" that I did for [info]caeseria: CLICKY )

  8. And to finish with, a Saiyuki/HP crossover that I put together for [info]bigbangblackout at [info]midnitemaraud_r's request: CLICKY )

*goes back to thesis*

I don't really care about so much about the plots on White Collar. They just keep giving me tasty OT3 stuff and I'm content.

I've spent most of the day uploading stuff to the AO3. It allows me to feel productive when I can't write. I have too many goddamn stories, though. [info - personal] angelgazing pointed out that I will never be done uploading because I write faster than I upload. Though possibly this is no longer the case. I don't know. I have been having my usual late autumn/early winter problems getting motivated. Since the archive takes so long to upload, I am also rereading some favorite stories (I don't have to pay as close attention to rereads - I can skim and skip and be interrupted without losing anything, 'cause I've already read them before). I keep getting errors, unfortunately, which is slowing things down even more.

Technology is not my friend.

I know lots of people are excited by tagging their stories in all sorts of ways, but I am doing what I find useful and that's it. As long as I get the characters/pairing on there, and maybe if it's a casefile or an episode tag, that's about the extent of my interest. Maybe if I upload my HP stuff, I'll split the Remus/Sirius out by era, like I have it in my tags on LJ, but mostly I don't care about the tags. *hides*

Also, I wish there were a place in the profile to link to a warnings policy, and that that link could just automatically be included on every story. Because I am just using the "No Primary Warnings Apply" which isn't the same as "no warnings needed" but 99% of my stuff is "no warnings needed" and I'd like to be able to say that somewhere, since it isn't a choice on the warnings field. I guess I could make it a tag, but I never think of it. I wish it were automatic.

Hmm...

Happy Thanksgiving to those who are celebrating! Happy Thursday to those who are not. I hope everyone had a lovely day, regardless.

My day began with BACON and PIE and ended with FOOTBALL and PIE, and in between there was stuffing and homemade cheese macaroni and turkey that was actually moist and tasty (!!), and more family shenanigans than you could shake a stick at. My brother was in rare form tonight, and basically had the whole table in stitches for most of the meal. Mostly at my expense, but eh, that's not new. and unfortunately, the Giants are capping off the day by sucking like unto a hoover, but I am too full and sleepy to care too much.

I am thankful for my family, my friends - including you guys - my health, and my job. Man, a year ago at this time, I was a week away from being laid off. I'm still a little freaked out by how that went, still anxious and lacking in confidence sometimes, but I'm so glad I found a new job quickly, and one that I mostly like, for people and an organization that I like. (I'm also grateful that I have tomorrow off and I don't have to use a day - it's one of our holidays. Mmm...sleeping in...) I'm grateful I have health insurance and can pay my rent and that I have an apartment I love.

I'm thankful for fandom, not just because of all the great stories to read and the feeling of having people who get my excitement about various shows and characters, but because of all the great people I've met and become friends with, who've made my life richer and better and more fun all around.

*hugs*

And also, I am thankful for PIE, and I would share some with you all if I could.

LJ to the rescue!

I'm making the corn pudding recipe I made a few years back, but after a frantic search through my recipe files (and boy, I need to organize that!) proved fruitless.

But then I remembered I took some pictures of it with Boy2 because he really liked it. And lo and behold! I also had posted the recipe. *huggles LJ archives*

So it's about 9am here. I got up early to start defrosting the turkey in our never-fail hotwater method. We're also smoking a ham. Made an apple pie and a pumpkin cheesecake yesterday, as well as the dressing, a cranberry-orange relish and a chicken & butternut squash stew (for lunch today). Today I have to do, besides the turkey and ham, the corn pudding and the asparagus.

Boy2 has just gotten up; HeadBoy and Fred are still out and snuggling together. I think Boy1 is down at BlondBoy's house. We're watching the Macy's parade. Lordy, what cheese.

We stayed up late last night to watch 'Carriers'. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't the greatest movie I've ever seen. It was pretty bleak in terms of storyline. The best thing was that I figured out how to connect Albus to the TV, and it was awesome! I also found out by reading the TV user's manual (because I am female and I do that sort of thing) that our TV will connect to the internet by itself and will stream videos from Amazon. That's totally awesome. I still need to get that set up, but wow, so cool. [Hey, I remember black&white TVs with spin dials, no cable or satellite, and Star Trek when it was the most advanced show on TV.]

Went for a walk around the neighborhood yesterday, and today my left foot hurts like a mofo. Dammit.

I hope all my fellow Pilgrims have a great Thanksgiving Day. And I bid the rest of the world a very fine day.

FACT: When you are used to writing antagonistic pairings, writing friendship pairings is hard. And features way too many OOC fights before the sex. :/

FACT: I heard some old Heart song on... IDK, a bathroom cleaner commercial or something the other day, and now I can't get it out of my head. Also, it has now become the soundtrack for my [info]smutty_claus story. I... don't know if this is a good thing or not.

Yes! *fist pump* Pyjamas and bacon sandwiches on the couch by ourselves, here we come. Thank God. Americans, I love you and appreciate that you love Thanksgiving so much, but honestly, I usually have better things to do on my birthday or close to than hang out with other people's families who invite the foreigners out of pity. FACT: Fabulous art recs are fabulous! Before I head back into writing lockdown, here, have some art!

Till Death Do Us Part by Anon at [info]hp_darkfest (Harry/Ginny, Harry/Draco, R: blood, character death [Ginny])
Mind the warnings, please: this is a very dark piece, thematically. It stunned the breath right out of me with its implications. It made me super uncomfortable and want to weep for humanity, in a way, but it's also an astonishing piece, both artistically and conceptually. Very highly recommended, but not easy to take in.

Pensive by [info]stellamoon (Draco, G)
Utterly stunning. a;lskdjf. I cannot even put into words how gorgeous and erotic this portrait is.

As You Witch by Anon at [info]radish_love (Harry/Luna, PG)
Yeah, ANON. *coughcough* Just about as anon as the first piece up there. :D There is no reason in the universe for this piece not having about 8 times as many comments as it currently does. It's fabulous.

Teddy and Victoire by [info]ericahpfa (both PG)
Erica is drawing next-gen portraits!!! *runs around flailing*

"Looking for these, Potter?" by [info]tbranch (Harry/Pansy, R)
Because I never, ever get tired of tbranch's Pansy, or Harry/Pansy. *purr*

Lily/Lorcan/Lysander by [info]_aurora_sky_ (NWS LIKE WHOA OKAY. Also, incest)
Because this post did not have nearly enough porn in it. :D Well, this isn't just porn. It's actually really gorgeous, with the positioning and the lighting and things like that. *nod* It's also hot like burning, okay, and I don't even care what you think of the next-gen characters or who Lorcan and Lysander are or whatever. HOT LIKE BURNING.

See something you like? Leave a bit of feedback for a talented artist today!

For tonight's bout of stress baking, I made blueberry boy bait (as recommended by [info - livejournal.com] devildoll), which came out well, I think (I am taking half to work and half to the parents), but I also think it needs more blueberries. Clearly I need to double the amount next time. And possibly make it in cupcake tins or my mini-loaf pan. Hmm...

Maybe one day I'll be like a real food blogger and remember to take pictures of stuff before I slice into it and wrap it up. Today was not that day.

On my ride home tonight (I was at work late again), I listened to Adam Raised a Cain a few times and vidded it in my head. I would be the most literal vidder ever. Anyway. I know I say this all the time, but where is the Sam Winchester vid to this song? WHERE IS IT? I think this season has provided more awesome footage for someone to do this.

the lyrics, in case you missed them the first 100 times I mentioned this idea )

Seriously, if I had minions, I would make one of them vid this for me.

For anyone who's a reading fiend like me, Amazon.com is offering a free download of the beta version of their Kindle for PC. I downloaded it this afternoon, and it seems pretty cool, doesn't look like it'll be hard to read from. Also, there are a bunch of books you can get for free, mostly classics, but some other stuff as well. No idea how long it'll last, but thought I'd point it out.

And since I'm still obsessing over music...Some free stuff. :D

I'm Yours - Jason Mraz (English) - A popular song that I like a lot.

Still... - BRIGHT (Japanese) - I just discovered BRIGHT really recently, pretty much by accident. Japanese girl band, really strong voices, and they sing the kind of upbeat pop music that I really like.

Memories Resemble Love - Park Hyo Shin (Korean) - I love love love Park Hyo Shin's voice. It's really gorgeous, and this is a really pretty song that complements it well.

Mama Mia - Meryl Streep (English) - I loved Mama Mia the movie, and I think I like the movie versions of the songs better than the original versions by ABBA.

Super Fresh - Arashi (Japanese) - I'm kind of in love with this song, even more so than "My Girl."

Gives You Hell - All-American Rejects (English) - Another popular song that I really like. It's such a fun song to sing along with.

Together - Night Falls Remix- - Monkey Majik (Japanese) - I love Monkey Majik. If you haven't listened to them, you really should.

Super Star - S.H.E. (Mandarin) - S.H.E. is a Taiwanese girl band that are kind of the female counterpart to Fahrenheit. They have great voices and I'm loving their music. This is one of my favorite songs by them.

Koinu - GReeeeN (Japanese) - GReeeeN is another really fun Japanese band, and this song makes me feel all sappy. It's about a puppy that someone finds and takes home, and the first time I actually listened to it, I may have cried. XP I actually translated the lyrics, so maybe I'll be ambitious and post them.

Rain - Angela Aki (Japanese) - This is one of my favorite songs by Angela Aki. She has this really lovely voice, and unlike most Japanese singers, her English is great too.

It's a Small World - Koda Kumi (Japanese) - This is off an album of Japanese artists doing covers of Disney songs, and while the entire album is made of win, this is the song that amused me the most. I never thought I would hear "It's a Small World" with a rap section... Yes, it's another 'Oh, Japan...' moment. Don't you love them?

Okaeri - Ayaka (Japanese) - Ayaka was just making her debut while I was studying in Japan, so she's always going to have a special place in my heart. Plus, I love her voice, and this is a nice pretty song that I like a lot.

i need love - Nakanomori Band (Japanese) - Nakanomori has great upbeat and fun songs, and I think this is my favorite of theirs.

Superb - Fahrenheit (Mandarin) - Favorite Fahrenheit song! It's actually pretty different from a lot of their other songs, but I love it. The rap sections make me really happy, in particular.

Xin Wo (New Home) - Fahrenheit and S.H.E. (Mandarin) - I love the combination of Fahrenheit and S.H.E. They're so bouncy and fun, and this is currently my favorite collaboration between them.

Fan - Epik High (Korean) - The music video for this song (and the lyrics to this song, actually) is amazing. I don't usually like music that's so focused on rap, but Epik High is the exception to that rule.

Scandal - Kangta & Vanness (Korean version) - Kangta & Vanness aren't just pretty, they're also talented together. I really like the combination of Vanness's English rapping and Kangta's pretty voice. Plus, I think it's cool that they have songs in Mandarin, Korean, and English. :)

Musekinin Hero - Kanjani8 (Japanese) - My favorite Kanjani8 song. Upbeat and silly and exactly what I want from Kanjani8.

A New Perspective - Panic at the Disco (English) - I was sad to hear that Panic had split up, but I still love this song a whole bunch.

Nobody (Rainstone Remix) - Wondergirls (Korean) - I don't know why I like this remix so much, since I'm usually all for the more upbeat stuff, but somehow this slower version works for me. And since it's Wondergirls, how can you go wrong?

Tatta Hitotsu dake - Tegomass (Japanese) - I've only listened to Tegomass's new album once, but this is the song that immediately stood out to me.

And that's it! Hope someone enjoys!

Thanks for all your tea and sympathy about our boosted Blu-Ray player from Amazon. I'm going to go to the shipping office today to lodge a formal complaint and order a search and rescue. I'm really pissed about this.

Because people just don't wander past my house and think, 'Hey, I'm gonna take that package by the door.' Because they can't. Our house is perched up on a hill and has a long drive way. Even though there weren't any cars there, we come and go at odd hours, so someone watching the house wouldn't even begin to guess when we're there.

Then there's the Fred factor. Fred watches the neighborhood from the front deck. He's a barky dog, but only when someone invades his territory. And he goes nuts when anyone enters the yard.

Unless he was deeply asleep on our bed. In which case I need to have another employee meeting with him. He's falling down on the job.

After dealing with the lovely and very helpful customer service rep from Amazon who issued a refund, Boy1 and I went off to Best Buy, where, lo and behold!, the player I wanted was even less than the amazon price. So I bought it. Set up was incredibly easy OMG! so easy! and I settled in with Boy2 to finally FINALLY watch 'Star Trek'. And on our new HD tv--oh, such yummy goodness. So many details I missed watching it even in the theater *cough4timescough* HeadBoy commented on how much better it would've been on a 55" screen. *headsmack* In our small living room, 42" is a little overwhelming for me.

*sighs* Well, all's well that ends well. But I'm gonna get Amazon their money back.

Now you know what our Christmas gift is. That's it. The boys will have a few things in their stockings, and the chance to buy BR films for the library, but that was a HUGE chunk o'change. Add on top of that a trip to New Orleans, and we're tapped out for the holiday already.

Subject: Regarding BDSM fic and How it Should be Written
Security: Public

Dear women in fandom,

Don't tell other women what they can and can't write. Don't tell them how they can and can't express their kinks.

Please keep in mind that when we write fanfic, we are writing fiction. We are exploring our fantasies, not demonstrating how our kinks work in real life.

If you don't like something you are reading, then backclick.

If you want to post a BDSM instruction manual drawing from your own, specific personal life experience than go for it! I'm sure a lot of people will be grateful and find it extremely informative.

But when I see one woman in fandom saying that she hopes a post will stop other women in fandom from writing a particular kink because it isn't written the way they personally want to see it written it make me furious with furious rage.

Especially if you are coming from the perspective of someone who lives a lifestyle that is frowned up and denigrated by greater society. You should know better. You don't try and stop other women from expressing their kinks in fiction. You don't tell them to do it "right" or shut up.

Women should not be trying to silence other women.

Given that, I challenge anyone who reads this and is interested to write and post BDSM fic in their LJ written exactly to their own personal kinks. Make it completely realistic, if that's what gets you going, or don't worry about making it realistic at all. Do it if you've got 10 years of experience in the BDSM community, do it if you're vanilla as hell in real life, do it as a celebration of the freedom we have in fandom to express ourselves exactly as we please through fiction.

Just don't tell other women what they should and shouldn't write and don't let anyone else tell you what you should and should't write.

I don't think I like Beckett's hair. It's too...helmety. Or something.

spoilers )

*happy sigh*

Castle is my happy place.

Now I need to sleep because I have to be in early tomorrow for meetings. Ugh.

...I love days like this :D

Awesome links that need to be shared because they are awesome:

  • From [info]caeseria, A Map of the Lands of Human Sexuality -- shared because it's lulzy and awesome (I find it charming that 'necrophilia' is further categorised into 'freshies' and 'moldies' :D :D :D). Sadly, it is not comprehensive, as it does not include my favourite kink, or [info]gryffindor_j's favourite kink [yes, J, I've assigned you this as your favourite kink :D -- at least it's not waterports (sic.)]

  • To all the Twihards Twi-mockers out there, [info]grrliz has an excellent post about RPATTZ, and the fact that HP fen were mocking him (affectionately!) loooooooong before Twilight was so much as a glint in SMeyer's eye: Portrait of the Artist as a Young Opium Eater. A snippet to get you emotionally invested in reading it:
[info]cadiliniel on meeting him at Collectormania:
[info]cadiliniel: I have to ask – you know the scene in which you tell Harry about the prefects’ bathroom?
    Rob: Yeah…
[info]cadiliniel: Was it meant to sound like you’re coming on to Harry?
Rob: [with perfect seriousness] Oh, yeah, definitely. There’s an outtake where I’m licking his ear.
[info]cadiliniel: Wow, really? You don’t happen to do anything like that with Krum, do you?
Rob: [giggling by now] Yeah, there’s a hardcore sex-scene in there somewhere!
And on the subject of Twi-anything, apparently a share of all of the profits from book/movie/sparkle!cock sales goes to fund SMeyer's (Mormon) religion -- the same one that splashes about a lot of money on anti-gay propoganda. I have done no research to evaluate this allegation, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were true, and if you need another reason not to spend money on Twistuff (other than the sparkle!cock, of course, because who could resist it?)

  • I don't know which of you guys introduced me to Regretsy, but... I just can't look away O.o One of my favourite creations so far is this (work safe -- probably not brain safe) homemade cummerbund -- 'one of a kind' (and thank fuck for that!).

  • I love Go Fug Yourself -- who doesn't? But can someone explain to me who Phoebe Price is, and why she's famous? I mean, her outfits are crackily lol-worthy, but I'm at a loss as to where I should know her from... I'd check Wiki, but she strikes me as the type to edit her own page :D

  • [info]athena8 is wonderful, and is translating the little notes that Minekura has done to accompany the pictures in SaltyDogVI over here (it's locked to the comm). My favourite (well, since I requested it and all :D ) is the note accompanying this image:
She says this is a well used situation, but she likes it quite a bit, where a character is unable to keep his cool. She says it's easy and fun to draw characters in their unguarded states, and she likes Sanzo like this. In the line drawing, you can't see the bubblegum on Sanzo's face, making it look like he's just a kid who couldn't make a bubble, lol.
    Oh, ikkou. Aw.

  • And finally, I've started writing a Saiyuki/HP crossover, with Sirius from HP (naturally) and from Saiyuki... Well, for now I'll just say that the working title for the fic is the Hogwarts motto -- Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus (or 'never tickle a sleeping [spoiler]') Watch this space! :D

The weekend was one of those that I like to avoid: busy and cluttered with too many busy-like things. We had a fairly lazy Friday night, which I enjoyed (both boys out of the house until late; a nice dinner alone with HeadBoy, a little pre-Christmas shopping), but then Saturday hit, and we careened from one activity to the next. Then came Sunday, and with HeadBoy down for the count all day, and me at work, it actually kind of worked out.

Two, well, 1.5 days, of work and then Thanksgiving starts. We're having dinner on Thursday with Rev Ann and her hubby, Mike, and their 2 kids, who are adored by my boys, but are a little whiny and at times downright rude so I merely tolerate them (I have plenty of other things to rag on about my boys, but they are never, ever rude to others, except on rare occasions) My MIL called to try to get out of it, to which I smacked her down, even though I couldn't really give a shit if she came or not, but her son wants her there, so...there it is. So she's confirmed. We just have to work out the details of food, and what Rev. Ann is going to eat because she is a veggie.

So, [info - personal] shocolate has been out wedding dress shopping with [info - personal] suzanne_taylor, and urged us to post photos of our wedding dresses.

Decided to participate once again in [info] bridge2sickbay. I actually like a couple I wrote yesterday. Theme was song lyrics.

McCoy/Chekov: I wanna hear laugh like you mean it. Collapse into me, tired with joy (Snow Patrol - 'Hands Open') )

McCoy/Author's Choice (Jocelyn): Georgia, Georgia / No peace, no peace I find / Just this old, sweet song / Keeps Georgia on my mind (Ray Charles) )

Author's Choice (McCoy/Kirk) - The broken lights on the freeway left me here alone. I may have lost my way now, haven't forgotten my way home (Broken - Lifehouse) )

Kirk/Chekov - Throw your window wide and taste the April night with me again (David Gray) )

Oh, that's enough torture for now. Huh. I think I ended up writing 7 ficlets, which is astonishing. There's a series of 3 that I want to clean up and make into a proper story.

Lunchtime! YAY.
